Pilates for Injuries and Special Populations

Calling All Pilates Instructors, Physical Therapists, and Trainees!

Are you interested in deepening your understanding of anatomy, physiology, and injuries to better serve your clients? Do you want to enable clients with physical challenges to enjoy all the benefits of Pilates? Are you hoping you make your studio or practice more accessible to clients who don’t match the stereotypical “fit” standard? This workshop is for you!

As Pilates instructors, we’re more effective when we can cater to a wide range of students beyond just the physically fit. We know that Pilates is about far more than fitness!

By choreographing accessible classes and offering modifications, we can help more clients enjoy the physical and mental benefits that Pilates offers. This workshop gives you the knowledge and techniques to design effective Pilates classes and programs for special populations.

Taught by Pilates in the Grove founder, Christa Gurka, and Dr. Kelly Vara, this important workshop covers all the essentials of working with clients who have injuries and/or physical limitations.

  • Increase your anatomical knowledge:

Learn more about anatomy, biomechanics, pathologies, and injuries to deepen your understanding of a variety of conditions — pregnancy, fibromyalgia, back pain, injuries, etc. — and train in a way that feels comfortable and safe for each one.

    Hone proper exercise techniques:

Discover how to identify faulty postures and suboptimal movement patterns while understanding the key anatomical elements as they relate to functional movement and exercise. You’ll also learn how to make modifications to Pilates choreography to accommodate clients with limitations.

Learn how to identify a need

This workshop will teach you how to examine dysfunctional patterns in various regions of the body, how to manage the most common types of injuries/special populations, and how to create and practice the appropriate programs for them.

  • Requirements of certification: Attend all classroom hours.

Students should have completed an approved Pilates certification program or are currently enrolled in an approved Teacher Training program.
